Dear Exeter Families,

As you are likely aware, Berks is now under a Winter Storm Watch with a significant snowstorm expected to affect our area this weekend into Monday. Should this storm materialize as forecasted, school will likely be disrupted early next week, and we wanted to make sure you were prepared for these possible scenarios:

  • IF we are CLOSED on Monday, this will be our third and final traditional snow day where students will be off of school and not expected to do any school work. Enjoy having their help as you shovel out!

  • IF we are also CLOSED on Tuesday--or any additional days this school year--we will use virtual learning days (otherwise known as a Flexible Instruction Day, or FID). Students will be expected to log their attendance and complete assignments from home when we have a virtual learning day.

You can find information about virtual learning on our website at www.exetersd.org/fid (under the "Find it Fast" menu).

Below are our procedures for a virtual learning day, as well as some common questions:

What is a virtual learning day (otherwise known as a FID)?

Virtual learning allows students to complete both an attendance log and all assigned work from home during a school day that may otherwise be canceled, such as when it snows or when there's a building emergency.

What are my student's expectations during a virtual day?

Teachers will post schoolwork for students on Schoology by 9AM on the virtual learning day (please allow extra time during a day that is first delayed and then becomes virtual). Students will then complete and submit their assignments to their teacher as directed.

How will the district know that my student "attended" school on a virtual day?

To be considered "present," students must record their attendance on a Google Form or by calling their respective attendance line no later than 10:30AM. Please find the link to the attendance forms by visiting www.exetersd.org/fid.

What if we have a power/internet failure or my child is sick and can't do his/her work?

You may call your respective school's attendance line if your child is sick or if you are experiencing significant power or internet outages and cannot record attendance or access and complete schoolwork:
  • High School: 610-779-3060, press 2
  • Junior High: 610-779-3320, press 2
  • Reiffton: 610-779-7640, press 2
  • Jacksonwald: 610-779-1820, press 2
  • Lorane: 610-582-8608, press 2
  • Owatin Creek: 610-406-4580, press 2

What if my child experiences technical issues accessing or submitting assignments?

Please call 610-898-9585 to contact a Technology Support Specialist. If a person does not answer, please leave a message and someone will return your call.

Are teachers able to help my child with his/her schoolwork?

Yes! All teachers and professional staff members will be available via email (directories below) or ParentSquare messages during the virtual day. In addition, all teachers will have two designated times (one in the morning and one in the afternoon) when they can be reached live online for further help or questions. Teachers will send out their optional Google Meet link along with their contact information on the virtual day through ParentSquare.

Email addresses for staff members are available on each school's website under the "directory" tab:

Enjoy the snow!
